| This is a good example of a comprehensive change. The
picture is over eighty years old and even after some care was given
to it, it's showing its age. The print has faded, cracks are stretching
across two-thirds of the photo and there are stains that run vertically
down the right edge.
In the after shot, we've eliminated that. First, the over-all tonal
quality is restored, followed by removal of the cracks which, at times,
involves recreating through cloning other parts of the print and bringing
them in to replace lost regions. For example, the two screw-heads
in front-facing of the baby's chair. It would have been easier to
crop it out, but the picture's owner wanted to keep the entire image
for posterity. And finally, the upper-half of the background was replaced
using the airbrush tool.
